Bad Memory

Press release:

In an isolated crib, Sarah is interviewing Jack, taping the

interview on a cheap camcorder. Sarah, is collecting

material for her thesis in forensic psychiatry while Jack

is recently de-institutionalised, a man who had killed a

school counsellor ten years ago; and who is

probably still insane.

When Sarah digs into the past and the night of Jackʼs

crime she learns more than she bargained for and events lead to a violent, explosive, confrontation!

Bad Memory was made by veteran low budget director Phil

Davison, and stars Barabara Carey, Andrew Munro, and Stephen Baker. The film was photographed by John Irwin and the screenplay is by Till Noever.

The movie was entirely shot on location at Murdering

beach, Otago, and in Dunedinʼs North East Valley.

The movie was made on a ridiculously small budget: “We had to keep the crew small since we couldnʼt afford to feed any extra mouths. But this turned into an advantage in that the atmosphere on the set was intimate, and allowed the actors to really shine.” (Phil Davison)

Made in 2002 from a screenplay by Dunedin writer Till Noever Bad Memory is as yet unreleased.

The screenplay features twists and turns, and is based on the fractured repressed memories of Jack (Andrew Munro). The movie is a grim drama, and when you think it has gotten a grim as it can be, there’s another two levels of grim of come.

Bad Memory was made for a total of around $NZ600, which was mainly spent on food and tape stock. The equipment was all borrowed, locations were provided free of charge, and cast & crew worked for nothing, or next to nothing.
